KRUSHLOVE + CUTZ ON CUTS REBROADCAST
FEATURE
A big shout out and thanks to the Cutz on Cuts Crew for having Krushlove on the show. Krushlove on the background while Shazam Bangles, DJ Moppy, and Rice the Sound Transmitter let their fingers talk for them. March 16th's show also had Motokimi (tablist), Abyss (Production), and the one and only Kenny Keys (Eulo, All Nat, Innosphere) laying down, what else.
These guys, along with host Constance K., deliver a weekly dose of turntablism broadcast live with a new guest always. Recently, Rob Swift. Catch that show along with others from the archives (links in main site).
Check the show out, create a profile and chat with the crew and guest artists during the show. Got to ask Rob about working with Herbie Hancock (Piano prodigy beyond other things), live answers and all in the broadcast.
Something new from the other element, check them out.
Cutz on Cuts is all about Quality. Broadcasting from DJ Moppy's Studio located in the South Side of Chicago complete with 5 Turntables, 4 Mixers, and Stacks of Records. The basis for the show started after Moppy invited Shazam Bangles and Rice The Sound Transmitter over for a Scratch session. One DJ selects the musical palette while the others paint it with their Scratches; creating an Orchestra of sounds derived from live collaboration.
Visit 10mixes.com and The Cutz on Cutzs Show broadcast live every wednesday night @4pm CST.

The journey continues with prodigal emcee as he updates us with tales from the road and rules for them. On the road in Europe follow the black collared gentleman through his world travels. En France? Check for Race in performing with Pumpkin and Submass crew! First EU BLog below, enjoy.
Well being out here for nearly 6 months has been both an eye-opening and life-changing experience. Without a doubt, I found that things/people aren't that much different wherever you go (Struggle, struggle, struggle...)! With barely any contacts and not much else, I still managed to network effectively and have an upcoming show March 2nd, 2011 (for info: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=164739640245046).
I've also managed a number of different collaborations with DEBILORITHMICOS(Molt records-Spain), NHU-RA(Norway), VIN'S DACUERO (Mentalow Recordings-France), DJ KEOR (France), RUEDI SNARE(Germany), JARO(New Kids No Genre-Germany), and OPTAMUS (Australia) amongst others which you should see(hear) released this year (Besides my beloved SOULEVR project with Kalico). Also the LANGSTON BUKOWKSKI Remix project should be visible, hopefully, BLACK COLLAR's freshman project, and as well, a few other promotional projects(6-7?) I have planned which will include A KLP exclusive and THE FIND MAG exclusive. Full plate, you say; can't eat fast enough.
Other than that just living life and taking it all in, as you can imagine.
I plan on continuing to progress and hopefully gain more shows and maybe even the attention of some labels I've had in mind(fingers crossed). Either way I feel like a different person altogether and have found the importances of loved ones and support(no matter how far away) to be something I'lll never take for granted, ever.
ADVICE: Always plan ahead and remember that life is no dream, but dreams can come to life.
I'd like to shout out to:
TRAD VIBE, SANEYES, CHIEF BEATMAKER, KLP, GETEYE, FACEBOOK FRIENDS AND FANS, PUMPKIN, VIN'S DACUERO, DEMONOLOGY, APOC, UAC, BLACK COLLAR, BLACK TEMPLE21, VERBAL KENT & LANCE AMBU, HOT SIT INC., MANNY SHANKS, MARI, SLEEPY, CHICAGO, FRANCE, ITALY and anyone I may have missed for continued support and inspiration. KRUSH LOVE! TO BE CONTINUED.....

Next installment of the black collared gentlemen's travels over seas.
"So the very first show in Paris and Europe for that matter took place on the lovely evening of March 2nd. Quite anxious since my last show had been in the states and nearly eight months ago.
21 soundbar is a nifty little Hip-Hop bar in Paris which I had been to before, but didn't imagine any shows took place there. To my surprise all the promotion and word of mouth worked! It was a packed crowd of about 40-50, but since the room and performance area were so tight, it gave the impression of a good old Chicago house party.
Sax to Ze Max began the evening with a thunderous assortment of hard dubstep. I began to loosen up (the 21 punch helped with that as well....strong a** rum!)
Th'Mole was next to bring his show. It was very stunning to say the least. Well rehearsed and mostly fun for the crowd after the shock of his colorful costume wore off.
Pumpkin was next up with Supafuh on turntables. I was eager to see her after we had been working together on playing a show for six months! She did not disappoint and played a solid set that left the crowd buzzin.
Great, now to follow up the two acts with only a cd and a mic.
Well if anyone could do it, RacecaR can. Set went nearly flawless and I rocked it to say the least. Bitter Batch was a strong point for sure, though the rest of the set seemed to keep attention as hardly any one moved from their spot. Call and response you say? Full on crowd participation! These people came to get their money's worth!
With the first show over I can, in introspection, say that as long a you give you're all, any crowd can appreciate a good time no matter what language you speak.
Big up to Submass for putting the show together and props to the acts and DJ! France is cool. Also shouts to RAPHAEL, JOSTEREO, KOOLTRASHER, WYDOW, and all the other heads that gave an encouraging word/email address post show. Well back to work! KLP!"

Well, as cliche as it sounds, they say life has it's ups and downs. That couldn't be further from the truth, but that's just me. I'd like to acknowledge France for providing, what has been, a most enlightening experience. And it don't stop. Also would like to thank all my friends back home for the words of encouragement and support. Big ups to you all!
BOURDEAUX
What can I say? By now, you've had to have tasted a bottle of wine from this fine region. If not, grab your glass and pour some out now. Within the grapes themselves, lie some of the brightest, most sophisticated juices you can taste. These juices are very indicative of the surroundings; bright yet varied. Hands down, the train ride there had some of the most beautiful scenery one could ever imagine. As we arrived and were touched by an unusually bright sun (unusual for some parts of France) you could feel a distinct difference from the hustle and bustle of busy Paris. Laid-back, not too far from the beach, and feeling carefree, I sensed that 80% of the residents wore sunglasses 90% of the time. This offshore breeze cascading in and out of every street could set even the most stressed person in the world at ease.
As in most of France, the food was born of quality and care. Bordeaux is most definitely a holiday(vacation for those from the states) town equipped with a bustling commercial district that somehow flowed like no other. I wasn't so interested in counting how many finer brand name stores stood shoulder to shoulder, as much as this feeling that I was i Venice (California). Fairly diverse it seemed as if it were a meeting place for folks of all calibre. I won't divulge anymore as Bordeaux must be felt, tasted, and above all experienced first-hand.
It was so inspiring, I penned a project I hope to release before the end of what should be a great summer. Thanks for your ear and I'll be back soon with more stories from the old world. Peace and Krush Love.

Let's jump back a bit, since I seemed to have skipped a crucial moment. Just before leaving for Bordeaux, I actually had my second show ever in Paris. I was late (late being a HUGE exaggeration after having wandered through between 4 to 6 districts for hours on foot). Now compared to Chicago, where I'm from, Paris is not as big, but the streets are not laid out in a grid pattern, more of a circular fashion. This however should not be overlooked, as my confusion began to grow by the hour. My contact could only try and steer me the right way, but I did feel as if it was a necessary experience nonetheless.
Arriving hours late (I was scheduled to open the show), I quickly checked in with the promoter (Submass) and was instructed to get it started. I hurriedly grabbed the mic and began to spark the crowd with a few uptempo tunes and then made to the sidelines for refreshment. I received a few brief congratulations and was pleased to be followed by solid performances by both Premonition (outta N.Y.) and Ancient Mith (outta Denver). Good crowd, good sounds, and good evening altogether. Big ups to 21 Soundbar, everyone who attended, and Submass for organizing the event.
As you may well know the independent label, Galapagos4, was founded in and has artists from Chicago. Suffice it to say, a few nights after my show, I'd found out Qwel and Maker would be in town. I had met Qwel awhile back up north in Chicago, but it had been a LONG while. Maker I happened to catch at a BBQ some years back in Wicker Park or Logan Square, I think (the details remain fuzzy as Dr. Awkward of Black Collar will attest to). Regardless these two gentlemen were cool and from Chicago on top of that. I made my way to their show at INTERNATIONAL in Paris (which was packed and fueled by a very appreciative crowd). I hit the product table and lo and behold Qwel. We instantly greeted each other with a pound and I would later join them backstage with my small entourage. We would trade stories of Chicago and how their European tour was going. I was introduced to Kolia (their promoter here in France), and later followed them back to their accommodations for a long night of reminiscing and sipping. Big up to those dudes and wishes of success. That evening was just the dose of Chicago I had needed.
I often think about the GO; sometimes with regret, sometimes just to go back in my head to relive what I had left behind. I'll tell you though, the more I'm here the more I realize the world can be as small as you want it to be.
Big shouts to all my peoples back in Chicago. Shouts to F. Stokes (another fellow Chicagoan I happened to meet a month or two ago) and Jostereo (a producer who happened to be at my first show here, who spent a lot of time in Chicago). Keep that eye peeled for the next blog. KLP!

CHESS
I've recently become hooked on this classic game of strategy and position. I had played previously, but just recently it has, once again, provided a healthy alternative to the strained eyes and carpal tunnel syndrome of the internet. I've even played online Chess a bit. It has become a manifestation of life lessons, but in a thinking way. I'm glad to have revisited this game (therapy?) once again. RacecaR suggests you play today! My record isn't worth mentioning, but I grow better with each game.
PEOPLE
I'd like to acknowledge and send condolences to Lord Faz(Beattrotterz & Mixlawax.com) for his loss. I was recently reminded how quick life can change.
So maybe I want to take the time for some shouts because you do truly never know:
Big ups to ALL my family and friends in Chicago. Big ups to the kind people I follow on Facebook. Big ups to Debilirithmicos, Pumpkin and Vin's, all without whom I would not have any contacts in Paris. Big ups to Jostereo, Kool Trasher, Sax to Ze Max, Mat(Submass). Who I would not have had any shows without. Big up Samy Fall, Ahmed, Yaseen, Mathew, and all the cool cats I met my first weeks here. Big ups to all the wonderful friends I met in Bologna, Italy for showing patience, hospitality (the food is unbelievably good) and the best Italian phrases to know when in Italy.
Big ups to:
-ANTHROPOWORKS (France and worldwide),
-APOC (as Langston Bukowski, U.S.),
-BROUS ONE (Chile),
-DEBILORITHMICOS (Spain),
-DJ KEOR (France),
-DJProfecy (France),
-JARO(New Kids No Genre, Germany),
-KATRAH QUEY (U.S.)
-LORD FAZ(Beattrotterz, France),
-NHU-RA (Norway),
-OPTAMUS (Australia),
-PILOOPHAZ (France),
-RUEDI SNARE (Switzerland),
-RYAN F.(Sump Pump Pro, U.S.),
-DJ SAUCE (U.S.)
-SOULEVR(Krush Love Productions, U.S.),
-SOUL SQUARE (France)
-VIN'S DA CUERO (France)
-WYDOW (Spain)
with whom I have projects coming out this year. You have all kept me motivated and reminded me why I make music.
Finally a great big hug to my beautiful fiancee Muriel and her wonderful family ( father Francois, mother Marena, sister Kim, brother Ben, sister Vannina and company) both close and extended, for showing me hospitality, kindness, patience, Chess, great food, life lessons, and schooling me in the rich cultures here in France, as well as, beyond.

NORMANDY
A region in the north of France which also happens to have been the site for D-Day. However I am here to tell you, DAMN! This a region of country. There is a freshness that hangs in the air like no other. Long stretching fields dotted with horses(cheval), cows(vache), and most often goats(chevre) or sheep(mouton), alternated with cozy towns sandwiched in between. We were lucky to have sun nearly the entire time, I'm told. Normandy requires you slow down and get back in tuned to what nature intended; appreciating what it offers. We were close to Calvados. Though it is the site of a famous WW2 battle, we did not see the beaches. I will tell you that it would be a far reach to think the darkness of war has ever touched such a flourishing place. Unbelievably fresh food, great cider, nice markets, and plenty of postcard like scenery awaits. RacecaR once agin also discovered the joys of swimming and exercising(you should too, it'll keep you around on this ole planet earth a bit longer). RacecaR approved!
WEATHER
I'm not sure if it's spring or summer or some unusual hybrid of both, but since coming back from Normandy, the weather has been mighty fine. Things are progressing along on the music front, but likewise, the homesickness is finally fading. I can't stress enough to you all to go forward and see this marvelous world for yourself. What is portrayed and stereotyped, should be laid to rest by your own senses. Life is not perfect, but then again, that's already a universal theme. People are people, period. Everyone's got joy and everyone's got pain. What does this have to do with the weather? I'd say not much, but life is a lot like the seasons if nothing else. One makes way for the other and the world keeps spinning. KLP!

TIM STROH GRAVEL + SCOPE RADIO
We got the chance to talk briefly with Tim Stroh of Gravel Records for KrushLoves's Soundview and get the update from the northside hiphop veteran on Scope Radio, Chicago politics, and hip hop overseas in 2011.
Tim is currently heading Gravel Records and is one third of the Scope Radio crew, broadcast from Northwestern University's Campus every Tuesday night. DJ Deluge and newcomer to broadcasting with the crew, (but not the music scene) Wes Wrestless join him. Tim formed Gravel on the north side of Chicago at the age of 24 in 2002 and still presses releases today, worldwide. Created at the request of friends and artists already forming their own following in Chicago Hip Hop, Gravel has been home to Earatik Statik, Verbal Kent, Pugs Atomz, and Matlock to name a few. Starting off as what Tim calls "…a streamline of ideas, a place to compile contacts and artists", Gravel has survived through consistent releases, shows, and a presence worldwide. As the US suffered big blows to the physical CD market Gravel focused more on live shows, tours, and digital sales. All ages shows have become regular events for Gravel here in Chicago in correlation with special releases and guests. While overseas the love of owning a physical copy of a CD and unique artist merchandise only grew for Gravel, US sales for physical copies dropped dramatically. This has established a fan base for them overseas with Verbal Kent and Earatik Statik touring and visiting consistently. Having a market overseas has allowed Gravel and Tim to have a home away from home, so to speak. With tour planning, marketing and LP pressing for the european/overseas market actually done there.
Tim's love of indie hip hop and his label is fused with his contributions to the community itself. With credits as a writer for Rebirth Magazine, Hiphopsite.com, and the now defunct but sorely missed Elemental Magazine, Tim has contributed articles along side J-Zone and Chuck D. Tim reminisces a little about Big Boi from Outkast calling his house for an Elemental Mag interview. You can tell he missed what he used to do there. "Each artist gave a different perspective and through Elemental I got to know some of these big name acts…I used to look forward to the designs and layout always new, something different." Writing articles and interviewing acts like Strong Arm Steady, Xzibit, or Big Boi was routine for 80 issues until their final issue with The Clipse gracing the cover.
Tim continues to contribute in media with Scope Radio broadcast from NU radio on 89.3FM Tuesday nights. Scope Radio is unconventional in that Tim and DJ Deluge try to include a political discussion at least once per show with the focus still on music, good music (catch the show). And they are successful, hosting politicians running for office on the show all the way to participants in the Madison,Wisconsin sleep-in recently. Even Rhymefest (also recently a guest) has thrown his bid for politics, spreading the information to a new crowd. Not always agreeing with every guest was never the goal for Scope Radio, more a spreading of the information for a younger audience to comprehend and make decisions on their own. With discussions always informative and neutral, Scope broadens the listeners and keeps focus on the issues at hand.
Tim and Deluge join Chicago's long list of independent radio with some of my favorites including…
Cosm Rocks and the Hip Hop Project @ 88.7FM (WLUW) (Saturday 8pm-Midnight)
K-max and Pugs Atomz w/ Thaione Davis and CTA Radio @ 88.5FM (Wedneday 9pm-Midnight)
Kristen Kreutz and Company with The Music Vox on Vocalo @ 89.5FM (Tuesday 6pm-8pm)
You can tune into the show yourself at 89.3 FM (WNUR/Chicago) every Tuesday live at 10PM until Midnight. Online at wnur.org for the podcast through itunes.
The follow up to the highly praised Chicago Project Vol.1, which featured Juice, Adad, the Opus, and Qwel amongst others is coming soon from Gravel Records.

Q&A
A quick 5 Q & A with EL Presidente at Gravel Records.
BEST NORTH SIDE EATERY?
I'd have to say Jury's in Lincoln Square. The Jury burger is serious business.
BEST DISH YOU CAN MAKE FROM SCRATCH?
My chef skills are limited, but I can make a decent quesadilla. I can also whip up a nice guacamole from scratch. My secret ingredient is tobasco.
BEST RAP GROUP THAT NEVER EXISTED?
I think a Canibus and Eminem project would have been great.
FAVORITE NEW ARTIST AND SINGLE?
I've been diggin a lot of the music by Big Quarters out of Minneapolis. Check em out at http://blog.bigquarters.com/.
As far as favorite new single, I'd have to say "Movement Music" by Malcolm & Martin w/DJ Revolution.
WHY GRAVEL RECORDS?
I was going by DJ Gravl or Gravlrok for a little bit in high school. I decided to use it for the label name since it seemed to fit the gritty, underground vibe of the music we were coming up with.

IT'S ELECTRIC
FEATURE
>>>>>>>>The Electric is On>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The Legendary DJ Vadim (OGS,NinjaTune, BBE) has got his energy moving and The Electric is on. Vadim has been a mainstay in not only the DJ realm/community, but producing consistently for almost twenty years now. From his prolific introduction into hiphop and the world music scene in the early 90's until now, DJ Vadim has remained a woridwide traveler, workaholic, and fan favorite.
If DJ Vadim is unkown to you I suggest you take a minute to search and even purchase some of his music. Grammy nominated, and FCC banned (for 'The Terrorist' w/ then Moshun Man), Vadim continues to impress and create with his new label and group.
Recently formed label Organically Grown Sounds and group The Electric has just released their debut project. Touring worldwide will now take a break and the US leg will be kicking off soon.
The Electric is of course DJ Vadim on beats, organics, and such. Hardly a newcomer, Sabira Jade has done work extensively in the past years to get her name out. Even finding time to record on Oscillations, a free release by Apple Juice Break and Jus Like Music. Sabira graces volume one with Paper Tiger. KrushLove regular RacecaR is featured on volume two of the series. Sabira Jade's vocals are hypnotic to say the least, check out 'Beautiful' on The Electric's youtube chanel (link below). A perfect compliment to Vadim's unique style and the third member, Chicago Emcee and Nacrobat.... ............Pugs Atomz.
Pugs Atomz needs no introduction among the Chicago music scene, progessing from the city streets to releasing projects on BBE Pugslee stays busy. Founding member of the Nacrobat crew Pugs adds the last bit of wiring to The Electric crew. Pugs hosts (when he can) a weekly Chicago radio show on whpk. With CTA radio among numerous other ventures in clothiing (AFRO Wear), Music, and community Pugs reps for Chicago and keeps it moving to the world.
Vadim and Co have a new single/video dropping soon for 'Toot toot' be on the look for that, heard it's a crazy video. Check for 'Running ' by The Electric on youtube another great video.
Another unique idea from Vadim and OGS to look out for is The Electric Bikes and Contest. Spot this bike around the world for a chance to win stuff from OGS and The Electric. Very Cool indeed. The picture above with The Electric bike was taken in Berlin, these bikes get around.
Tour Dates and Links below for The Electric. Check out the new moves from Vadim, Sabira Jade, and Chicago's own Pugs Atomz.
